The re-elected Labor Government is planning for healthcare needs of the Western Metropolitan Region. Melbourne’s West is expected to grow by 40% in next 40 years.
The $1.5 billion public hospital in Footscray will ensure that the Western Metropolitan Region receives the best healthcare for generations to come.
The new Footscray Hospital is proposed to be delivered as a Public Private Partnership and expected to open in 2025. The hospital will meet the demands of the growing west, and further create up to 2,000 jobs in the process.
The hospital will bring many more benefits for the West. It will
- provide up to 504 new beds
- cut waiting times across emergency department, elective surgery and outpatient clinic services
- allow almost 15,000 additional patients to be treated each year, as well as almost 20,000 additional emergency department admissions
- include a major expansion of mental health care services.
